For years, Gretzky’s goal record was viewed as unbreakable. Now Ovechkin is just 41 goals away. The Russian winger had some poor stretches throughout the 2023-24 season but still finished with 31 goals. The two years prior to that, he had 42 and 50-goal seasons. This record should be in play this season, and it would almost be guaranteed to fall if Ovechkin plays in 2025-26.
