7. Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama has frequently been the SEC favorite and a national championship contender over the past two decades, but the Crimson Tide may need help to make the playoff in 2024. Alabama was ranked No. 1 after a huge win over Georgia, but a loss at Vanderbilt was detrimental to its resume. The Crimson Tide’s loss to Tennessee also hurt, but they could remain a two-loss team by the end of the regular season. 

That will require a big road win at LSU in Week 11, but after that, Alabama faces Mercer, Oklahoma and Auburn. Jalen Milroe and electrifying freshman receiver Ryan Williams make the Tide a threat and Alabama has proven capable of beating anybody in the country. However, the losses have been significant and it might take a couple of missteps by the teams ahead of it to truly give Alabama a chance of reaching the playoff.
