Darian Mensah transferring: 5 landing spots for freshman QB
Oklahoma Sooners
Even with Dillon Gabriel departing, Oklahoma appeared set at the quarterback position around this time last year with five-star Jackson Arnold and incoming four-star freshman Michael Hawkins Jr. Things didn’t go as planned in 2024 though as the Sooners went just 6-6 and finished with a passing attack that ranked 122nd out of 133 FBS teams. Arnold plans to move on from Oklahoma after entering the transfer portal, and the Sooners could likely upgrade on Hawkins Jr. who was inconsistent when on the field. That could make Mensah a top target for Brent Venables and new offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle. Mensah isn’t quite the dual-threat quarterback that John Mateer was for Arbuckle at Washington State, but he has similar passing ability and could fit well in the new-look Oklahoma offense.
