Owen Freeman transferring: 5 landing spots for Iowa big man

IOWA CITY, Iowa (BVM) – Iowa big man Owen Freeman is entering the transfer portal after two seasons with the Hawkeyes. The announcement came shortly after Iowa fired longtime head coach Fran McCaffery.

Freeman, a top 200 player in the Class of 2023 out of Moline, Illinois, joined the Hawkeyes over multiple other Big Ten schools that offered him during his prep career. He immediately shined in Iowa City, earning 2024 Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors while averaging 10.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in his first collegiate season.

Despite missing the final month-and-a-half of Iowa’s 2024-25 campaign, the 6-foot-10, 245-pound big man showed vast improvement across the 19 games he played, averaging 16.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.8 blocks while shooting 63.8% from the field.

Freeman has proven his potential as a physical big who can dominate down low on both ends of the floor. He should garner significant interest during his stay in the portal, particularly with two years of eligibility remaining. Here are five landing spots for Freeman.
